Breckenridge Peak 8 Development Approved

Breckenridge Grand Vacation owners received final approval Tuesday to begin construction on a a new time-share development on the Bergenhof site at the base of Peak 8.
The five story building will house 75 time-share units along with amenities including an acquatics area, spa, cafe, and multiple movie theaters. The project represents an $ 80 million construction project and is expected to protect 130 local jobs in addition to adding 100 new positions.

Vail Resorts Visitations Up

Vail Resorts, operator of Breckenridge, Keystone, Vail, Beaver Creek and 3 resorts in California announced last week that visitation to its seven resorts climbed 2 % through Sunday, January 13th, 2013 as compared to the 2011-2102 ski season.

USA Pro Challenge

USA Pro Challenge organizers reported Thursday that the week long August bicycle race drew 1 million spectators across its 683 mile route through 12 Colorado towns including Breckenridge. Oraganizers said the privately funded race stirred $ 99.6 million in spending, up from $ 83.5 million last year.
Research firm IFM Global reports spectators from 25 states lined the course and 53 % of spectators came from outside Colorado and furthermore indicated they would not have traveled to Colorado if not for the race. More than three-quarters of the spectators said they were likely to return next year.

Breckenridge Ski Resort Poised For Expansion

The U.S. Forest Service is allowing Breckenridge Ski Area to proceed with a 550 acre expansion known as Peak 6. The expansion is inside Breckenridge’s Forest Service ski permit and was zoned for lift serviced alpine skiing in the White River National Forest 2002 master plan.
The expansion will have a six-person chairlift, a lower fixed grip lift, 413 acres of lift serviced skiing, 143 acres of hike-to-skiing, a 1500 square foot restroom facility and a 500 square foot ski patrol building. Vail Resorts has indicated it expects the new Breckenridge terrain to be available for the 2013-2014 season.

Breckenridge To Bid For USA Pro Challenge in 2013

Breckenridge is again looking to host a start or finish in the 2013 USA Pro Challenge, town officials confirmed Tuesday. The town is 2-0 in the bidding process to become a host city for the 600-plus-mile bike race, after winning a race stage finish in 2011 and a start in August 2012.
“It’s a great event, we want to be a part of it”, Kim Dykastra-DiLallo said. “We’ll probably put in a bid every year”.
