The High Country Conservation Center (HC3) is hosting its eighth annual Harvest Dinner benefit Wednesday, September 21st. The evening is a four-course celebration of local and seasonal food. This year, the event will feature food grown at HC3’s local farm, the Summit Community Supported Agriculture (CSA), and will showcase the success of the new farm’s first season.
About a month ago, the High Country Conservation Center hosted a grand opening party for its community supported agriculture program. The event showcased new greenhouses at the Frisco Transit Center that were built in the fall of 2015. These greenhouses have quadrupled the growing space for the CSA program.
A CSA is a farm operation that’s supported by community members who purchase a produce share in the spring and receive seasonal veggies for 16 weeks throughout the summer. Shareholders pick-up produce weekly at a designated time and place, mingle with other program participants and receive recipes and ideas from farmer Kyla LaPlante.
The Summit CSA operates at Nancy’s Place in Frisco and the Frisco Transfer Center with a total of six greenhouses and over 6,000 square feet of growing space.
This summer, the Summit CSA has produced 75 shares with veggies ranging from cold hardy greens and root crops to garlic, onions, tomatoes, cucumbers, and potatoes. Additionally, they just added an egg share program, partnering with Vail Meat Co. in Avon.
The annual Harvest Dinner Benefit began as a way to bring awareness to the fact that food can be grown at Summit County’s high elevation.

Reservations are now available! $55 for adults and $25 for children younger than 12. Food will be prepared by chef Vinny Monarcha of Vinny’s Restaurant in Frisco and the event will be hosted there. Contact HC3 at (970) 668-5703 to make your reservation today!
The Harvest Dinner will also feature door prizes including tickets to the Denver Performing Arts Center. All proceeds from this event support HC3’s programs.
