• Breckenridge pine beetle hotline: (970) 547-3131, ext. 1010. Property owners should leave their name, physical address, legal address (if known), phone number and e-mail address to schedule a timely pine beetle inspection. Additional questions can be directed to town planner Jenn Cram, (970) 547-3116.
• The important dates for the Town of Breckenridge and homeowners are:
June 30: Recommended day to cut down beetle-infested trees and to inform the town that the trees are down so the town can pick them up for chipping.
July 15: Last day the Town will provide chipping for free in 2007.

Douglas County, long a magnet for young families, is watching its over-60 population grow at a faster rate than any other metro county. With the exception of Denver, counties from Arapahoe up to Gilpin will see their older population grow by double-digit percentages between 2004 and 2009, the Denver Regional Council of Governments predicts.
But with nearly a 60 percent growth rate in older residents, Douglas County will gray faster than its neighbors.

Economic opportunities are increasingly coming at altitude.
Six of the nation's 10 fastest-growing state economies last year were located in the Mountain West, including Colorado's, according to the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis.
Idaho and Utah were the fastest growers, experiencing inflation-adjusted economic-growth rates above 7 percent, more than double the U.S. average of 3.4 percent.
