Beaver Run Reopens After 3.5 Million In Improvements

BRECKENRIDGE - After more than 20 years of anchoring Breckenridge, Beaver Run Resort underwent a $3.5 million renovation this year. Beaver Run, located slopeside at Breckenridge Ski Resort's Peak 9, will show off the new Coppertop Café and Bar Friday.

Coppertop has tripled in size, expanding its deck to 5,000 square feet, with an extra floor added. The café has been around since 1979, but has been closed for the last year and a half. This season, the Swing Crew will play from 3-7 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays, along with bar and pizza specials.

Frisco Eyes Robust Growth

FRISCO - Healthy revenue projections have spurred Frisco finance director Bonnie Moinet to loosen the purse strings in the proposed 2008 budget, showing $18.72 million in total expenditures.

"We're taking a more aggressive approach," Moinet said. Revenues are expected to grow by 14 percent. Under the draft budget, the town would up spending by 13 percent. "In the past, we've taken a more conservative approach."

First formal reading of the budget is set for Nov. 13, with a final hearing Nov. 27.

Baby Boomers, Gas Boom To Fuel Growth In Mountain Resort Counties

GLENWOOD SPRINGS - Baby boomers buying second homes and a booming natural-gas industry will send the collective population of Pitkin, Eagle and Garfield counties soaring through 2025, the state's senior demographer said.

The Colorado Department of Local Affairs projects that Pitkin, Garfield and Eagle counties combined will grow from 116,500 people in 2005 to 220,000 by 2025, almost doubling, demographer Jim Westkott said Friday.
