Summit County Real Estate: Yearly Review


xThe real estate market in Summit County remains strong relative to the nationwide housing slow down, as evidenced below:

  1. 216 residential properties sold for over one million dollars in 2007 – 8 of those transactions were over three million.
  2. The total monetary dollar volume sold in 2007 showed no gain from 2006, although the number of transactions in 2007 were down 11% from 2006.
  3. The average real estate transaction price in 2007 was $509,693. The average price in 2006 was $448,367.

Peak 6 Expansion Debate Aired at Open House

BRECKENRIDGE — A proposal to add new lifts and trails on Peak 6 at Breckenridge is shaping up as a classic battle over ski area expansion.

Breckenridge Ski Area wants to add more intermediate terrain to help spread out skiers, while some conservation groups and backcountry skiers claim the addition could fragment important wildlife habitat and result in the loss of non-mechanized recreational opportunities.

An open house in Breckenridge Wednesday evening gave interested citizens a chance to get a close look at the plan, with ski area executives and Forest Service rangers on hand to answer initial questions and explain the review and approval process.

Shock Hill Project Approved

BRECKENRIDGE — Breckenridge Town Council passed the planning commission decisions at this week’s meeting, which included the approval of the Shock Hill luxury condo project at the midway station of the BreckConnect Gondola.

The Shock Hill Lodge and Spa will have about 100 units that are being released in six phases for between $1 to $4 million. The parking will be underground and a hybrid shuttle service for residents is part of the project that will also involve sustainable building.
