Census reflects consistent growth in Summit County

SUMMIT COUNTY Population increased steadily across Colorado and much of Summit County from 2000 to 2007, according to U.S. Census data released Thursday.
The countys year-round inhabitants are gradually increasing with the rise of retail and services, said demographer Richard Lin with the Colorado Department of Local Affairs.
(Theyre) starting to turn into normal communities along Interstate 70, he said.
The county population estimate increased by 576 to 26,547 in 2007. This was the biggest leap over the data period, which started with 23,548 people in 2000.
Silverthorne, with 3,927, is the countys largest community, followed by Breckenridge, with 3,366, according to the U.S. Census Bureau at www.census.gov.

FRISCO Things will soon be looking a little greener on the corner of Summit Boulevard and Granite Street, as construction crews prepare to demolish an abandoned shopping complex and break-ground on a new development.
Water Tower Place which replaces the 1973-era Frisco Boardwalk building will offer 42 housing units and more than 14,000 square feet of commercial space and will be constructed under the Green Globe Standard, marking Friscos first certified green project.
