By Robert Allen
Summit Daily News
July 11, 2008

SUMMIT COUNTY — Population increased steadily across Colorado and much of Summit County from 2000 to 2007, according to U.S. Census data released Thursday.

The county’s year-round inhabitants are gradually increasing with the rise of retail and services, said demographer Richard Lin with the Colorado Department of Local Affairs.

“(They’re) starting to turn into normal communities along Interstate 70,” he said.
The county population estimate increased by 576 to 26,547 in 2007. This was the biggest leap over the data period, which started with 23,548 people in 2000.
Silverthorne, with 3,927, is the county’s largest community, followed by Breckenridge, with 3,366, according to the U.S. Census Bureau at www.census.gov.
