SUMMIT COUNTY — COPPER MOUNTAIN — Local ski-resort executives speaking at the annual chiefs breakfast on Wednesday said they are hoping that a big drop in early season bookings will turn around when the snow starts to fall.
Industry wide, September booking rates were down 19.6 percent, following a 21.3 percent drop in August, said Ralf Garrison, who analyzes the mountain-resort industry.
In the past few months, consumer confidence has dropped more than ever before, Garrison told the overflowing crowd at Copper Mountain conference center.

Breckenridge Companies Receive Awards for Hospitality Excellence

BRECKENRIDGE — The Breckenridge Resort Chamber today announced that the Breckenridge Convention and Visitor’s Bureau (BCVB) and Beaver Run Resort are the recipients of 2008 Pinnacle Awards for their hospitality excellence, innovation, customer collaboration, and top-notch amenities, which set them apart from the rest. “The Breckenridge CVB has taken customer service to a new level providing welcome booths, promotional giveaways and discount booklets for all meetings and large groups visiting Breckenridge,” said Shawna Henderson, Director of Sales for the BCVB.
“We are honored to receive the Pinnacle distinction, and we congratulate Beaver Run Resort for their award and thank them for their continued partnership with us in hosting successful and memorable meetings in Breckenridge.”

Breckenridge to Start Ski Season on Peak 8

Breckenridge, CO - Colorado's Breckenridge Ski Resort has revealed its opening day plan for the upcoming winter season. The Colorado ski and snowboard resort is planning to open Friday, November 7, with terrain, lifts and services on Peak 8 instead of its usual opening day terrain on Peak 9.
With cold temperatures in the forecast, Breckenridge Ski Resort plans to start up snowmaking operations on Sunday. Skiers and riders can expect top to bottom skiing via the Colorado Superchair on opening day. The BreckConnect Gondola will be open providing the only resort access with a lift ride from the skier parking lots in town. There is presently no parking on Peak 8 due to construction.
