Breckenridge Pumps $250,000 into Marketing

By Robert Allen
Summit Daily News
November 14, 2008

Hoping to stave off a severe downturn in winter reservations, the Breckenridge Town Council this week pumped $250,000 into the town’s marketing program.

Without the money, Breckenridge businesses could see an estimated $38 million decline in lodging, retail and restaurant revenue this winter, according to the Breckenridge Resort Chamber.

The towns of Dillon, Silverthorne, Frisco and Breckenridge, the Summit County government, Lake Dillon Fire-Rescue, Red, White & Blue Fire Protection District and the Summit County School District each contributed $1,200 to purchase the system called Roam Secure.

“We renamed the system Summit County Alert,” county emergency manager Joel Cochran said. “It’s a shared regional system between us, Eagle and Pitkin Counties, so that brought the project cost down to within reach.”
