Fresh Snow Puts Ski Resorts Over the Hump

SUMMIT COUNTY Snowfall statewide during the past week has enabled resorts to open new terrain, with fresh tracks from north to south and east to west.
Locally, Keystone picked up 16 inches during the past week and now has a 28-inch mid-mountain base, and resort officials announced the launch of snowcat skiing in Independence Bowl and the opening of the main jump line in the A51 terrain park.
For night owls, the lights will be on seven days a week from Dec. 19 through Jan. 4. Thirteen lifts are operating, serving 2,524 acres. About 90 percent of Keystones terrain will be open as of this weekend.

VR: Season Pass Sales Up, Lodging Down

SUMMIT COUNTY Timely real estate sales and season-pass revenues were bright spots for Vail Resorts in the fiscal quarter ending Oct. 31, according to an earnings report released Tuesday.
The company closed on 42 units at Crystal Peak Lodge in Breckenridge for proceeds of $54.6 million and reported a 29 percent increase in pass-sales revenues over last year for the quarter.
But news on the reservation front is still grim, with advance bookings down 23 percent in room nights

SUMMIT COUNTY Plastic bags: Beware. It may finally be the end of an era filled with disposable, one-use sacks.
Summit County towns will be joining together to compete as one community against as many as 24 other ski towns in a friendly contest to reduce disposable-bag use.
