Become a part of Breckenridge History

By Breck150
Summit Daily News
May 16, 2009
Nearly 100 years ago, on July 31, 1909, the local order of Masons laid the cornerstone of the Summit County Courthouse in Breckenridge with great fanfare and ceremony.
One hundred years later, as the courthouse celebrates its 100th anniversary in conjunction with the Breck150, much anticipation surrounds the century old courthouse and specifically, the cornerstone. Within the granite block is a time capsule, which was sealed and put in place by the Masons.
On the morning of August 8, as part of Breckenridge's Grand Celebration, local county officials and members of the Breck150 Committee will unveil the contents of the historic time capsule to the public for the first time.

Installation will require a subsidy up front, but the county expects the systems to pay for themselves during their expected life span, with long term savings on energy costs.

Breck museum reopens
By Kimberly Nicoletti
Summit Daily News
May 22, 2009
The Edwin Carter Museum reopens Saturday after a 15-month restoration. Edwin Carter would have approved of his cabin's latest restoration, mostly because it follows "green" standards.
As visitors walk into the "new" Edwin Carter museum, they'll notice it's lighter, cleaner and more spacious. "It's a much more encompassing museum, and it's much more interactive," Peterson said.
The town and heritage alliance completed the museum rehabilitation as part of Breckenridge's 150th anniversary celebration. The museum will be open Tuesdays through Sundays, and in the spirit of Carter, who never charged admission, it is free.
