Peak 6 expansion could be last for Breck

Plans for the Breckenridge Ski Area to expand on Peak 6 may be scaled back somewhat following input from a community task force.

Among the key outcomes is a commitment by the ski area to forgo any Peak 6 base area development.Additionally, the Peak 6 terrain would be the last expansion sought by the resort in the Ten Mile Range.

The ski area wants to add several hundred acres of new trails and above treeline skiing on Peak 6. Reacting to the earliest draft proposal, residents of the area expressed concerns about growth and how it affects quality of life.

Breck reopens Peak 8 Fun Park

The Breckenridge Peak 8 Fun Park is returning this summer with the Alpine SuperSlide, mountain biking and SuperPutt slated to open June 19.

Because of construction continuing at the Peal 8 base area, parking will be available at the gondola lots - with buses providing transport.

The park was closed last year for the construction. This year it is to be open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Activities also include a climbing wall, trampoline, rides on Colorado SuperChair and gemstone panning.

Bike Week set to start July 4

Often lumped into the category of simply being one of Colorado's many ski towns, Breckenridge's unique mining history gives it a unique recreational distinctin: its expansive mountain bike trails.

The incredible amount of single-track made from old mining paths is one of Breckenridge's "best kept secrets," said Carly Grimes, public relations director for the Breckenridge Resort Chamber.

Grimes hopes that won't be the case for long, as the Resort Chamber is hosting the inaugural Breck Bike Week from July 4-12.
