Nestled at the southern end of the Ten Mile Range, this historic mining town has claimed its’ fame from the powder snow and diverse culture. It is the base of Breckenridge Ski Resort, which climbs to 12,840 feet on the highest chairlift. Victorian homes and quaint businesses line the Main Street.
Like many popular mountain towns of Colorado, Breckenridge was built upon the fortune-seeking mindset of miners in the late 1880′s. Mining camps were built throughout Summit County, but unfortunately most were abandoned in the 1940′s. The town experienced some very hard times until the “new gold rush” came in the 1960′s, when skiers and mountain seeking residents flocked back to Breckenridge to experience the “White Gold Rush”.
The charm of Breckenridge’s Victorian style homes and buildings offer visitors and residents a reminder of the towns history and tradition. Even though the town holds onto its’ historical look and feel tightly, Breckenridge offers a great nightlife for everyone. Whether you are looking for a unique South American dish or a traditional Italian supper, Breckenridge has a variety of dining options. After dinner the town is known to really light up. Offering a number of local bars, pubs and clubs, Breckenridge has a great after hours scene.
The town boasts a 27 hole, Jack Nickalus golf course, an indoor/outdoor ice skating rink, a comprehensive fitness/recreation center (with an indoor pool), and the Colorado Mountain College. Not to mention the network of off-road and paved biking trails on all types of terrain.
